A Compass course
Self-paced

Money, in your own name.

Nine modules that take you from not wanting to look, to a plan you built yourself.

Built for the woman who is putting her financial life back in her own hands — after a divorce, in a midlife pivot, or in the season when someone else stopped handling it. Not generic money advice. The specific things that change when your household changes.

Why this exists

Most money courses are written for a life that is holding still.

They assume a stable month, two adults, and a decade to compound. That is not the year you are having. When a household comes apart, a specific set of questions arrives all at once — whose debt is this, what does the decree actually change, can I afford to stay in the house, what happens to my credit, what does one income really cover — and almost nothing written for a general audience answers any of them.

The Groundwork answers those. It is the course I built because the women I work with kept arriving with the same nine problems, in roughly the same order.

The curriculum

Nine modules, in the order they actually happen.

Each one is a video, a written lesson, two real situations at different starting points, one worksheet, and a short check. Work in order — they build.

How it works

Built to be used, not watched.

01

Your work stays yours.

Every worksheet field saves in your own browser. Your numbers, your notes, your answers — none of it reaches our servers. This is your financial life; it should not be sitting in somebody's database.

02

Education, not advice.

You will finish knowing how things work and exactly which questions to take to an attorney or a CPA. That turns an expensive open-ended engagement into a short specific one — which is usually where the money is saved.

03

Yours to keep.

One payment. No subscription. Lifetime access and every future update, on any device, at whatever pace the year allows.

A word on what this is not. The Groundwork will not tell you what to invest in, whether to accept a settlement, or how to file your return. Those require someone who knows your facts and holds the licence to give that advice. What it will do is make sure you walk into those conversations knowing what you own, what you owe, whose name is on it, and what to ask.
Read some of it first, free. Every module has a companion article in The Library — nine plain answers to the questions this course covers, including why a decree doesn't get your name off a joint loan and how to find what a month actually costs you. If the writing isn't for you, you'll know before you spend anything.
Who teaches it

Katherine Boean, CFE.

A CFE-certified financial strategist and business consultant who has spent more than a decade teaching people how money actually works — in workshops, in classrooms, and one at a time across a table. Her Becoming grew out of the pattern she kept seeing: capable women, mid-transition, making enormous decisions on top of a picture nobody had ever helped them assemble.

She is not a licensed financial advisor and does not pretend to be. What she is, is very good at making the practical part legible — and unusually direct about when you need to go and pay somebody else.

The nine modules are written and the worksheets are built. I am recording the video now, and I am not taking anyone's money until you can actually watch it.

In the meantime the whole of it is free to read, in different words, at the Library.

You’ll hear from me the day it opens — and the founding price goes to this list first.

Questions

Before you start.

Is this financial advice?

No, and that distinction is deliberate. The Groundwork is financial education — it explains how things work so you can make your own decisions and ask better questions of the professionals you hire. Katherine is a CFE-certified financial strategist and business consultant, not a licensed financial advisor, attorney, or tax preparer. Two modules will tell you plainly to go and pay someone, because that is genuinely the right answer for those questions.

I'm in the middle of a divorce. Is it too early?

It is the best possible time. Modules 02 through 05 cover exactly the things that are decided during a settlement and very hard to undo afterwards — what you own, whose name is on what, and which joint debts follow you out. Several of the most expensive mistakes in this course are ones you can only avoid before a decree is final.

How long does it take?

About 225 minutes of video across nine modules, plus the activities. Most women do one module a week over two months. The one exception is module 02, which asks for a genuine ninety minutes — it is the highest-value time in the course and the part people postpone.

Do I need to be good with money?

No. Module 01 exists because most women arrive convinced they are bad at this, and that belief is usually an inherited pattern rather than an accurate assessment. The course assumes no background and no maths beyond subtraction.

What if I'm not divorcing?

The course is built for women in financial transition broadly — a midlife pivot, widowhood, raising children alone, or steadying a life after a long stretch of someone else handling the money. The divorce-specific material sits in identifiable places; the rest applies to any woman putting her financial life in her own name.

Is my information private?

Nothing you type into the workbook fields leaves your device. Your answers, notes, and progress are stored in your own browser, not on our servers. We never see your numbers.

The Circle is free, and it always was.

You do not have to buy anything to be let in. The Circle is open to you today — five chapters, women who have been exactly where you are. The Groundwork is for when you want the practical part taught properly.
